Travel [ap] JOIN METAL REVIEW AT LAST.FM!

Join Metal Review’s brand new group over at Last.fm for readers, forum members, and staff. Why? Why, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. The group’s page will make some nifty charts that show the artists and songs currently most popular in the MR community. You can contribute your two cents with your listening habits, and use the internet radio features to check out stuff that other people are digging. You can visit band’s pages and talk to other fans or listen to tracks. You’ll also get recommendations, be able to post in last.fm’s equivalent to lashing, plus use the discussion board section, and help us continue to promote the site. Let your voice be heard–tell us what you’re listening to, and together we’ll tell the rest of the net what metal the Metal Review faithful recommends.

If you don’t have a last.fm account, I recommend you wander on over there and check them out soon. Really a pretty cool site. I’m brand new to it, but love how they keep track of your listening patterns and history, and offer all of the features I talked about above. That chart in the bottom of my post?  One of the several this site generates.  Visit the Metal Review group, then click any of the members’ avatars to visit their pages to see what the site is all about.

I’m excited about this group. It’d be cool to have hundreds of readers (join up even if you’re not a regular forum user) and staff. This is a really cool add on feature to the community and reviews we offer, but it will only work if we have good participation. Check it out.

Just created an account. I didn't realize how awesome this service was.

Re: JOIN METAL REVIEW AT LAST.FM!

There are some things that bother me about last.fm though. For one thing, a lot of songs are mislabeled. Like, I'll say I want to listen to death metal and fuckin Hatebreed will start playing. So I end up tagging a lot of mislabeled bands and then those tags appear in my "favorite tags" list, but they're certainly not my favorites.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any way of undoing the "Don't ever play me this track again" feature. I've hit it by accident a few times.

And, does anyone know what the "Express your love for this track" button does? I click it often but it doesn't seem to be reflected anywhere.

I don't use the radio...I just use it to track my iTunes/iPod plays.

I think I have an account I never really used. I'll check it out again.

Edit: Ok, I'm all set up. Username is the same, turned out me thinking I had made one, was a dream.

Oh. I only use it at work so I just type in the genres I want to listen to. I don't listen to music on my computer at home.

    Yeah...tagging is a messy business.

Tracks and bands are mislabeled because other people label them as such. There's nothing you can do about that except label them with tags you think are correct. The more people label something with a specific tag, the more it's associated with it compared to others. It's usually better to play the radio based on a band you already like instead of a whole genre, since then it'll play stuff most similar to it. The 'favourite tags' list is just a list of the one's you've used the most often.

The way to unban a track is to open the last.fm client and expand the section on the left that says "Recently Banned". Right click on the desired track and select "Un-ban This Track".

The 'Loved Tracks' feature seems to be just ornamental, since the only effect it has is to show people what you've recently loved and also wether a track you've recently played has been loved by you when shown in an external widget, such as the one on Facebook. Last.fm suscribers can also create a 'Loved Tracks' personal radio channel for themselves.
