    LONGEST.GAME.EVER

Here is what happens when gaming goes terribly wrong. The game is Sid Meier's Civilization Revoltution on the XBOX360.

Well here I am at 2:30 this morning starting to go after my final victory of the Deity difficulty (domination) and finishing up at 10:15 in the evening. Yes you heard right. That is nearly 20 hours of playing straight on through to get what was apparently rather easy for everyone else. I must have done something really wrong but on the other hand must have been doing plenty right to last that long and not be dominated myself.

Basically here is the rundown of events leading up to what would almost become a stalemate. I started my city near mountains as usual (and this was a huge set of hills) and immediately changed over to Monarchy and built everything relating to culture. Next I build everything relating to production in my first city. Once I was able to build things quickly I made 3 sets of settlers and lined them up on all four points of the huge mountains. Right I away I did everything in those I had done in my capital. Once all four cities were finished with all that could be done I started creating extra Modern Infantry (5 armies per city) for defense cuz by this time other Civs were starting to mess with me.

Once all of my cities were well defended I began producing artillery armies to begin my invasions. The fiirst two capitals went real smooth and once I had them I made them just like my other cities. By this time I could have already won  by culture or economic but since I was going for domination I obviously didn't build those wonders. This is when it really got bad. Somewhere in the early 2000's AD the years start counting by 2 per move and I had so many units and cities to manage that it literally took almost 10 minutes per move. Right about now is when it looks like two other Civs are catching up in the economic victory but they never do. It's just all out war for the next 15 hours and no matter how many units I have I just cannot penetrate their cities. Their culture and economies stay at a stand still the whole time while we just fight and re manage our units every 15 minutes.

Finally at 2425 AD the game ends and I have more culture, money, and capitals and I am declared the victor by domination. Achievements unlocked, but was it worth it? Hell no. I have such a migraine headache and though I have loved Civ ever since the first PC game, I don't think I will ever play on anything higher than King again.

Who else has had a nightmare gaming session like this with this game? Or any game, hell.

Damn dude, deity must suck balls. As of right now, I haven't gone past King. Why didn't you just build a market and a bank in each city and start making gold instead of science, though, and tell all your guys to fortify so you don't have to mess with them?

Something I find annoying about the Modern age of CivRev is every fucking civilization feels the need to crank out fighters and then move them around for no goddamn reason. Every turn they'll fly the same squadron right up to my cities, but just look at it and do nothing, then fly right back.

Is Civ on the XBox as good as Civ III was way back when, outside of Panzer General that is the greatest game of all time. So many hours spent on that. I loved to become a Fundamentilist and turn the world into a steaming mess of Nuclear War, fuck space flight and culture. Is this on the PC? I might have to buy a stupid XBox if it is that good. Alpah Centauri was a great game as well.

I played the Beta Cetauri scenario so all technologies were already researched so I could focus on production right away. The problem wasn't with my guys who I had defending it was that I had every city turning out artillery for my attacks and having hundreds of units on their way to a battle that never changed sides it took a really long time to complete those attacks. I'm glad it's done.

If you ever need any tips for the Deity levels let me know. Domination is the hardest and I don't have any great advice for it but I can get you through the other victory types pretty easily.

I enjoyed it a bit more than even the PC versions (mainly cuz I like to sit on my bed or couch instead of an uncomfortable chair) and surprisingly the way they mapped the commands to the controller works very efficiently. There are 16 Civs to start with and more than a dozen scenarios to beat on 5 different difficulties (Chieftan, Warlord, King, Emperor, Deity) so the replay is very high. There is also a decent multiplayer mode but it can be time consuming if yur opponents are taking their sweet ass time with their turns. Civ Rev compiles almost all the past pieces of the Civ puzzle rather nicely. It's a must play, just not on Deity. LoL

My favourite Civ games are Civ II and IV. CivRev doesn't top those, but it's still Civ, so it's a fuckton of fun regardless.

Out of curiousity Facial, why were you playing Beta Centauri? Does a Catapult blitz not work?

yeah i played the demo of CivRev. It was ok. I'm a big fan of Civ4 but it just kinda felt like a bastardized striped down console version. Couldn't get into it.

I was playing the Beta Centauri scenario so that I didn't have to focus on technologies, only production of cities and units. It makes it a bit easier to manage. For all the Deity levels I used the scenario for either Lightning Round or Beta Centauri. They are suppose to take less than 15 minutes but on that difficulty it can easily turn into hours.

great scotch! i am almost done with a bottle of Macallan 12 yr cask strength. great taste but kinda strong. all the flavors seem amplified.

got any other scotch recommendations? glenlivet and macallan are the only ones i have tried so far.

I had XBOX360 on the big screen and had UFC in the small picture in picture in the lower right corner.

That Silva man.... is unstoppable. The reason he beats all of these guys, is becuase he fights smart, not sloppy.
