What does 'album; mean to you

I truly feel the word was annexed with the record, and being 24, I aim to ressurect vinyl. What is the first thing that comes to mind? For me:

    1) Round

    2) The Doors ( i dont like the doors)

    3) The word classic

    4) The word 'classic'

    5) The word 'shitty ..... cover'

I feel the word has been diluted with the new generation....the web gen if you will...we are accustomed to instant gratification, are we not?

I just think of an "album" as a full length release. I think of vinyl when I hear "record." Perhaps it should be the other way around.

    The silence is deafening...

I use album and record interchangeably to mean full length since that's what I've always thought. But I say words like soda instead of pop.

You fuckers think just because a guy reads comics he can't start some shit?

Pretty much this, except that 'record' in Nashville can also mean just a recording of an individual song, same as 'track' would.

To me, album means that book I do my scrapbooking in!  It's super fun!

I'm kidding.  I don't know why anyone has this hobby.

The other day a guy asked me how windchimes worked.  I processed that for about 2 seconds, and then I said to myself, "Holy shit, I have to make some changes in my life."

    That be funny there.

    Album = full-length release.

Vinyl = split albums by my buddy's band that I can't load on my ipod.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

An album is a full-length, as derived from the LP vinyl standard of ~40 minuntes in length, record release. To me its also something that you can hold in your hand with artwork, liner notes and protective packaging. Also all of the recordings are related in the sense they were written for the release.

Record imo is just short for recording so any portable recording format can be called a record.

Vinyl should always just be called vinyl.

Its always been album or record to me. I grew up listening to records for a long time before cd's came out. I still call a full length cd an album. I guess we use the word "vinyl" to tell the difference.  Guess what I'm saying is if I still had the album Master of Reality, I wouldn't call it "Master of Reality on vinyl". I'm still not used to the whole vinyl reincarnation. Anyway, perhaps I make no sense here and maybe the thread starter was intoxicated. Hovever, I definitely took the day off from work today and I'm stoned.

    Likewise, on both counts.
