Its not that new anymore, but Above The Weeping World by Insomnium is great as well.

Great album.  Kalmah, Daylight Dies are pretty good too.

It slips my mind right now but what is that band out of Mexico but based in Chicago that is so fucking good? They are another one that own, I'm getting old and shit slips my mind though. Like Arghoslent they play melodic Death Metal like it was meant to be played.

    The Chasm?

Thank you, that is one hell of band.

Not sure how you feel about them, but the new Arghoslent is a killer melodic death album.

I just want to add that I saw this plug coming a mile away.

I still don't quite understand the hype around this band. I mean, they're pretty good, but I've never gotten as worked up and excited over them as most others seem to. Honestly I think their playing of the race card has been a genius career move for them; I doubt they'd have gotten nearly as much attention otherwise.

Maybe, you could be right that it got people to listen to them for the curiosty factor, but if the music was shit people wouldn't be into them at all and they would have died a long time ago. To be honest with you, even for me I just had to hear what a band who wrote a song called "The Simian Surge" sounded like. For me it was pretty mind blowing because I loved the raw vocals, perfect (to me) production and just the fucking riffage. I think the new one is def below Incorrigable Bigotry and Arsenal of Glory, but head and shoulders above what passed as old school Death Metal these days for the most part. It slips my mind right now but what is that band out of Mexico but based in Chicago that is so fucking good? They are another one that own, I'm getting old and shit slips my mind though. Like Arghoslent they play melodic Death Metal like it was meant to be played.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to suggest that there's nothing to them at all musically--I just can't really dig it. I think the vocals are actually the weak point; the dude's a little too breathy and not cavernous sounding enough for my tastes, but I tend to be really picky about how I like my death vox. I'm not really begrudging them their gimmick either, even though I think it's completely tasteless (but then...metal is completely tasteless for the most part). As far as melodic death metal the way it was meant to be played, give me Edge of Sanity, Eucharist, Dismember's more melodic tracks, At the Gates, and Vital Remains' mega epic slowdowns.

And yeah I'm pretty positive you're referring to The Chasm. Good band but another one where I'm not quite as blown away as the hype makes me think I should be. When are they putting another one out?

It's cool, and like TF said early Chasm not so much but the last album they did is really killer (because it sounds like Dissection even though a lot dispute this). Edge of Sanity is an amazing band, I spin Spectral Sorrows once I week just so I can hear their Manowar cover and "Lost". Lost is like one of my top 10 songs of all time, seriously if I'm drunk or pissed or whatever, in goes Spectral Sorrows and up goes "Lost" to fucking 11. Nobody can do death vocals like Dan Swano and I don't want to hear shit about dude from Obituary either, Swano is the best ever, period.

I'm funny too, I like shit like Bloodred Throne and Myrkskog but never heard a Morbid Angel album.

Best album by The Chasm, IMO, is Conjuration of the Spectral Empire. That is how I want my melodic death metal done.
