TORCHE Announce U.S. Tourdates

After a mind-blowing past few months, releasing what many are calling one of 2008's best albums (and touring w/ Metallica friends The Sword and Japan's heavy-metal heroes in Boris), the almighty TORCHE have just announced their very first headlining tour in support of their Hydra Head debut, Meanderthal.

Taking along friends and label-mates Clouds for the entire ride, the two are joined by Louisville rock-monsters Coliseum, and San Francisco's heavily distorted sludge-mongers, Black Cobra. Full tourdates below, including a month-long European trek w/ Pelican to kick off the festivities, and select dates in Japan also w/ Coliseum in the middle of everything! Finally fans around the world will get to see TORCHE destroy.

Judas Priest to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008!

CHAOSWAVE Signs With Nightmare Records

Italian/Danish power-thrash metal act CHAOSWAVE has inked a deal with the American label Nightmare Records. The group's new album, "Dead Eye Dreaming", will be released in North America on November 25. The European release date will be anounced soon.

"Dead Eye Dreaming" (see cover artwork below) will contain 11 songs and almost an hour's worth of music. The CD was mixed earlier this year by Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND) and features a special guest appearance by Steve Smyth, former guitarist of NEVERMORE and TESTAMENT.

Commented Smyth: "I first heard CHAOSWAVE a few years ago while on tour with NEVERMORE, and absolutely loved that they had a heavy, progressive metal sound, combined with a male-female vocal duo that sound huge, and very unique together. Everyone in this band is a top-notch musician! I am very pleased to have been asked and contributed solos to the band's new album, which I believe is sure to snap many ears in their direction this year!"

DRAGONFORCE Announce Fall Headline Tour

Fresh off their massively successful stint on the main stage of this summer's inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest, DragonForce aren't content to take a break. The band will hit the U.S. for a six-week headline tour that hits major markets, supporting their new album, Ultra Beatdown, which lands on retail shelves on August 26. DragonForce are a touring machine, but their last headline tour occured two years ago in September 2006. It was a sold-out spectacle that cemented the band's reputation as a live powerhouse, so it's time for the band to once again topline a bill! Turisas will serve as main support for the tour, which kicks off on November 1 and runs through December 19.

DragonForce have absolutely erupted since the release of 2006's Inhuman Rampage, which has sold over 300,000 copies and counting. GIANT SQUID Issue Studio Update; Cover Syd Barrett For Tribute CD

San Francisco's progressive/doom/stoner rock band GIANT SQUID have completed a week of studio work on their upcoming, self-released album The Ichthyologist with Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Pearl Jam).

In an update posted online, singer/guitarist Aaron Gregory posts: "Giant Squid just finished a grueling seven days of recording in Seattle's Litho Room studio with highly regarded producer, Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Pearl Jam), and will return in September for another six days to finish tracking and mixing at Bayles' personal studio, The Red Room. The results so far have been incredible. Our new album, The Ichthyologist, is just over an hours worth of music, ten full songs ranging from immensely heavy riffs to other worldly melodies that Giant Squid is known for. Bayles is a true master of his trade, and the rough mixes already sound beautiful. We can't wait to hear how our music will come across after he's finished having his way with it.

Giant Squid will be self releasing only a thousand physical copies of The Ichthyologist, available only through the bands website, giantsquidlives.com and our myspace page, myspace.com/giantsquid, along with digital versions of the record available for purchase as a download as well. Hopefully, we can find a solid label to release a full vinyl version simultaneously. We're shooting for a January 2009 release, so wish us luck and keep checking in to see how it's coming along!"

Giant Squid's debut album, Metridium Fields, was released on August 22, 2006 on The End Records.

In other GIANT SQUID news, the band has also recorded a cover song for the upcoming Syd Barrett tribute album. The guitarist comments, "We're also excited to finally announce the release of Like Black Holes in the Sky: The Tribute to Syd Barrett on Los Angeles based label, Dwell Records, upon which we cover Syd's, "Octopus". Dwell approached us a while back to take part in this amazing compilation of artists to pay homage to one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, and unarguably one of the most influential artists in psychedelic and experimental rock music. Upon hearing the roster of bands taking part in the album, it was a no brainer for us, and a real honor to have Giant Squid considered to be amongst them as well as the chance to try our hand at interpreting one of Syd's bizarre yet equally brilliant songs.

Not only is "Octopus" the first song Giant Squid has ever covered, it is also the first song we've recorded with cellist/vocalist, Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon, Asunder), and so will be an interesting glimpse into future material to come from us. Since this recording took place before Chris Lyman, Giant Squid's latest drummer, joined the band, we kidnapped Grayceon's bombastic drummer, Zack Farwell and convinced legendary heavy music producer, Billy Anderson (Cattle Decapitation, High On Fire, Neurosis) that this "madcap" idea would sound like something musical at the end of the day if he was willing to twist some knobs for us. We feel the end result came out far better than we could have expected.

SPYLACOPA Debut EP To Surface In November

SPYLACOPA -- the new studio project featuring John LaMacchia (Candiria), Jeff Caxide (Isis), Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan) and Julie Christmas (Made Out of Babies / Battle of Mice) -- will release their debut five-song Ep this November on RISING PULSE RECORDS.

The band which LaMacchia formed to explore experimental and hypnotic compositions while playing guitar in rock/jazz/crossover band CANDIRIA have been working since 2006 on the Ep. About the band and debut release, LaMacchia comments: "These are some of the best musicians I've ever worked with and the music on this EP speaks volumes of their talent. Fans will definitely be pleased."

While all the musicians are busy with their other bands and touring schedules, LaMacchia doesn't rule out the chance of a few shows with the band. "It will be a challenge, but a show or two might pop up. Fingers crossed."

BIO:
Fueled aggression, experimental precision, and driving infectious hooks are just some of the parts comprising the whole that is Spylacopa - a musical venture spearheaded by Candiria lead guitarist and songwriter John LaMacchia. The band can be described as painters of a vast audio landscape, putting listeners on a constant musical journey. And while Spylacopa often changes gears, and is far from pedestrian - it is very feel-oriented.

Formed by LaMacchia in 2000, Spylacopa was simply intended to be a conduit for his experimental and hypnotic compositions. But that soon snowballed into something more significant. The first Spylacopa release, "Collective Unconscious," appeared on Candiria's C.O.M.A. Imprint in 2002. And some years later, in 2005, with the addition of The Dillinger Escape Plan's Greg Puciato and Jeff Caxide of Isis, another Spylacopa single, "The Duke," was released on Undreradar Records. Feeling chemistry, camaraderie, and a river of creative juices, in late 2006, Spylacopa began to work on its first official release - but not before the addition of yet another member - frontwoman Julie Christmas from Made Out of Babies.

NORTHER Announce Canadian Tour Contest; Schedule North American Release Date For 'N'

Finnish metal heavyweights NORTHER have scheduled September 30^th as the North American release date for their highly anticipated new record N. The record marks the band's Century Media debut and will feature two bonus tracks from the No Way Back EP, "No Way Back" and "C.U.S.", along with a video for the track "We Rock".

Mixed at Fascination Street Studios/Sweden by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia), Lost to the Living features nine new songs from this cherished, North Carolina-based doom metal band. Working with Travis Smith (Amon Amarth, Soilwork) for the album's packaging, it is already in its initial release weeks coming to be another fan and critic favorite. "We all feel confident this is the strongest album we've made," says drummer Jesse Haff. "The material is a mix of beautiful, melancholic leads and harsh dissonant rhythms; all the despair-driven hooks and dark atmosphere you've come to expect from us."

Formed in 1996, Daylight Dies drummer Haff with guitarist Barre Gambling slowly crafted songs that would make their appearance on the band's 2002 debut No Reply (Relapse). Their second album, the impressive Dismantling Devotion, was released March 2006 via Candlelight Records. Revolver Magazine called it "as thoughtful and compellingly musical as it is bleak and vengeful... essential." A US tour with Moonspell and friends Katatonia, the band including vocalist Nathan Ellis, bassist Egan O'Rourke, guitarist Charley Shackelford, together with Gambling and Haff completed 2006 on an all-time high.

SONATA ARCTICA Prepare For Their Finnish Invasion Of North America

While the tour preparation checklist for Finland's SONATA ARCTICA has not yet been posted on The Smoking Gun website, fans probably think it would read something like this: New guitarist Elias Viljanen? Check. Power converters? Check. Sopranos DVDs? Check. Altoids Mints? Check.

According to keyboard player Henrik "Henkka" Klingenberg, tour preparations for SONATA ARCTICA's fifth trip to North America are a bit more complicated than that. Returning to the western hemisphere to play 21 shows with fellow Finns Nightwish (fronted by new Swedish lead singer Anette Olzon) and playing six headlining shows of their own, Henkka shares the process of choosing set lists, the prospect of shows in Hawaii and Las Vegas, shopping lists, liver transplants, and an update on Conan O'Brien:

"About the set lists, it's a process of trial & error, mostly error. We actually had some time to rehearse a couple of songs we're never played live before and we're gonna do these now on this tour. Most of the songs will, however, be a nice mixture of old and new favorites, some to which you can dance and some to which you can't. We tried hard to bring this tour to Hawaii, but not hard enough. I think I sent a request to have all off-days in either Hawaii or Las Vegas but neither seems to be possible this time, so we'd probably end up staying on the bus in front of a Wal-mart somewhere. Speaking of Wal-mart, our shopping lists include: socks, Chivas Regal 12 years old, Frank Zappa CDs, cowboy boots, Marlboro Lights, ice, more Chivas, and new Zippo lighters. I sincerely believe our Finnish super-livers will survive many more tours than this one, so no liver transplants will be necessary. Conan O'Brien should still fear having us show up in his studio audience because we WILL prevail! Eventually we're bound to succeed according to the great prophecies of Reverend Lance. What would be greater than appearing on his first show when he replaces Jay Leno? We'll keep the rest of the plan a secret."

SUICIDE SILENCE will embark on a massive headlining tour this fall, dubbed the "Cleansing The Nation" tour, with Emmure, Beneath The Massacre, After The Burial and Architects. The trek, which kicks off on Oct. 3^rd, marks the end of the group's worldwide touring cycle for The Cleansing, their highly acclaimed debut offering. Mitch Lucker (vocals) states: "The Rockstar Mayhem Tour was hands down the greatest tour we've ever done and we're proud to have been a part of its first year in existence. With that said, it's time to move forward and hit the road once again this October. Although we originally had The Dillinger Escape Plan onboard for this fall tour, they've recently dropped off and will not be a part of the package. Just to clarify any rumors floating around, their cancellation had nothing to do with tour politics, band drama or musical tastes. It simply couldn't work out for them this time around and we hope to team up with those guys in the near future. As far as the final ‘Cleansing the Nation' lineup is concerned, we're very happy with how it turned out and we'll see you all on the road soon!"

ALL THAT REMAINS Unveil 'Chiron' Video And Tracklisting For 'Overcome'

Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS has unveiled the band's new video for the track "Chiron," from the forthcoming album ‘Overcome' exclusively online as Buzznet.com's video of the day (http://allthatremains.buzznet.com/user/video/3456391/all-remains-chiron/). The clip was shot earlier this summer while the band was in Los Angeles with director Brian Thompson (As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage) and a behind the scenes clip is also available here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4TycQvdg1k).

Meanwhile, ALL THAT REMAINS has also unveiled the track listing for ‘Overcome,' which marks the first time the band has covered a song, Nevermore's "Believe In Nothing." "We decided to do a cover on this disc and we didn't want to do what every other band is doing these days and take a pop or rock song from the 80s," frontman Phil Labonte says. "We figured a song by a band with real metal cred would do best for us. This song never got the attention it deserved. It's an amazingly well written song and even though it's not the most complex song Nevermore has done it is, in my opinion, one of their best. We ran the idea by Nevermore and they gave us their blessing so we were very happy to have the original artists behind it. I couldn't be happier with the way it came out!"

‘Overcome' will see a Sept. 16 release through Prosthetic Records, while ALL THAT REMAINS just finished their run on Vans Warped Tour last weekend in Los Angeles. The band is now at home and gearing up for a co-headlining tour with Trivium, which will also feature 36 Crazy Fists and The Human Abstract, after which ALL THAT REMAINS will be direct support in major markets to In Flames, which will also see the band playing with Gojira and 36 Crazy Fists.

FIREWIND Posts New Instructional Clip Online

The Greek metal sensation, FIREWIND, made a huge impact throughout North America on the massive "Tyranny and Bloodshred" tour package, which was hailed as one of the best guitar-shredder packages of the year. This crushing trek also featured labelmates Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity and Divine Heresy. This was the group's first stateside run in support of their critically acclaimed new album, The Premonition, which features the hit tracks, "Mercenary Man" and "Head Up High." Bob Katsionis (guitars, keyboards) recently recorded an instructional lesson that can now be viewed on the band's official YouTube page www.youtube.com/firetv. Stay tuned for new episodes featuring vocal lessons from Apollo, drum lessons from Mark and additional Gus G. clips, which should be posted over the next couple of weeks.

Katsionis further comments: "In this series of lessons, I will show and explain some of my keyboard solos and parts out of The Premonition album, as well as present some of my simultaneous keyboard and guitar performances. This first video lesson contains stuff from the songs ‘Into The Fire,' ‘Angels Forgive Me' and some lead keyboard licks."
