Planes Mistaken for Stars
They should've been a LOT more popular than they were. They had everything: fast n' angry tunes, a GREAT vocalist (seriously, one of the most underappreciated voices of his generation, right there with Mr. J Jenkins), and just an irresistibly cathartic, fuck everything vibe. Hardcore should've continued to go in this direction. They were equal parts Black Flag, Husker Du, and Rites of Spring, a post-hardcore monster that praised their elders and still moved things forward. Instead, we're still stuck with a glut of gang shouting phonies and 2-tuff assholes screaming for breakdowns and smacking their Tap Out clad chests. Fuck. I love hardcore so much yet it's so hard to fucking like most of the time.
Anyway, PMfS is great if you like the stuff on SST and Dischord that came out post-Revolution Summer. You're still missed, dudes.
